Changelog

New features, improvements and fixes to devbox.studio.

  1. Accounts

    • NewSign in with your email to keep your games in your account and open them on any device. Accounts are optional and for players 13 and older.
    • NewGames already in your browser are added to your account when you sign in, and edits sync automatically after that.
    • NewDelete your account, and every game saved to it, from the Account page.
  2. Multi-level games with a level map

    • NewGames can have up to 24 levels. Add, rename, reorder, duplicate and delete them on the new Levels & map screen in the editor, and give each one its own backdrop, tileset and size.
    • NewGames with more than one level open on a map that leads from one level to the next. Each level on the map is a little picture of its backdrop and tileset. Drag levels around the map, pick its backdrop and title, and choose a dotted, solid or hidden path.
    • NewChoose how each level unlocks: after the level before it, after any other level so the map can branch, once players have collected enough coins, or open from the start.
    • NewEach level you clear shows your best coin count, like 7/10, on the map, along with your total levels and coins. Progress saves in your browser, and Start over clears it.
    • ImprovedTest play starts in the level you are editing, and can unlock every level so you can try any of them.
  3. Privacy policy, terms of use and analytics

    • Newdevbox.studio now uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which features get used, like playing, sharing and remixing games. It never receives the games themselves.
    • NewAdded a Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, linked from the footer. They explain that your games stay in your browser and what the site does collect.
    • ImprovedPage view analytics no longer include the game data carried in share links.
    • ImprovedThe footer now credits Forging Destiny Studios, LLC, the company that makes devbox.studio.
  4. A new icon and better link previews

    • NewPip, the little yellow hero, is now the devbox.studio icon in your browser tab and on your home screen.
    • NewAdd devbox.studio to your phone or desktop home screen and it opens like an app.
    • ImprovedLinks to devbox.studio and to each template game show a proper title, description and preview image when you post them in chats and social apps.
    • ImprovedTemplate games are easier to find from search engines.
  5. Save, share and replay your games

    • NewGames now save in your browser as you edit, so a refresh or a closed tab no longer loses your work.
    • NewA My games page lists everything you have saved on this device, where you can open or delete each game.
    • NewThe editor has a Share button that copies a play link for your game. Anyone with the link can play it, no account needed.
    • NewShared games have a Remix button that opens a copy in the editor for you to change.
    • ImprovedImported game files are saved as their own game instead of replacing the one you had open.
    • FixedThe first bricks in Green Hills sat just out of reach. They are one tile lower now, so a single jump gets you there.
  6. devbox.studio launches

    • NewBuild platformers in the browser with World, Sprite, Sound and Controls editors, starting from 10 templates.
    • NewCharacters have a victory frame, shown with a little hop when you touch a checkpoint or the finish flag.
    • NewCopy a sprite frame to another frame in one click instead of repainting it.
    • NewSome characters unlock after you finish your first game.
    • NewCreate your own hero straight from the home page, which opens the sprite editor.
    • ImprovedPixel Forge is now devbox.studio.
